Why Graphics Are So Important
Before going any further, let’s start with a single word – "Zebra".
Now you are thinking what does the word "Zebra" have to do with anything. Let’s take a moment and look at this. What happened there? As soon as you saw the word "Zebra", a picture of a "Zebra" popped in your mind, correct?
This is called Visual Association and that is how our minds work. Not just one or a small percentage of population, but everyone – all 100%. Yes, our minds think in pictures. And that is why graphics play an important role in helping your business be successful.
Some of you may be saying that can’t be true. Well ask yourself this - How do you dream? Is it in words? No pictures. Again, that is how the mind thinks.
Let’s Take a Closer Look
Well until about 10-15 years ago signs used only "Words", now they use "Pictures". Airplanes used to have signs reading the words "No Smoking", now they have "Pictures" of cigarettes with a line through them. Computers used to use text based commands for operations, now they use GUI’s (or Graphical User Interfaces). Is this by chance or by design?
The Universal Power of Pictures
Awhile ago, a group of Researchers did a study on the Natives in Kenya. They asked the Natives to describe the word "Snow", and they could not. Then they tried many different methods of explaining to the Natives what "Snow" was, only to find out there were two problems - the Natives had never seen "Snow"; nor did they have a word for it in their language.
No matter what they tried, nothing seemed to work. They finally showed the Natives a picture of "Snow". Immediately the Natives comprehended what "Snow" really was – they could see it; most importantly, they could understand it. And this is only one example of the universal power of pictures.
